The Doctor’s Initiative is a speaker’s bureau consisting of women physicians dedicated to making a positive impact in the community. We offer inspirational messages of resilience and fortitude in the pursuit of your dreams. We speak to schools, churches, community groups, fundraisers, political organizations, and community health education workshops and forums. We are committed to making connections and dedicating the time to mentor and build relationships with those in greatest need.
Dr. Dia Copeland was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. She currently practices Gastroenterology and Advanced Endoscopy at Kaiser Permanente, Mid-Atlantic States. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She completed medical school at Howard University College of Medicine, Washington, DC, and Internal Medicine residency at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Ann Arbor, MI. She then went on to complete two fellowships in Gastroenterology & Advanced Endoscopy at Mayo Medical School, Rochester, MN. After four years of practice at Henry Ford Health System, Detroit, MI, she relocated to the Washington, DC area. She has received the Kaiser Permanente Shining Star award for clinical excellence and is a passionate mentor and advocate for youth pursuing higher education.
Dr. Kimberly Jenkins is an anesthesiologist, who currently resides in Detroit and is a practicing Assistant Professor at the University of Toledo College of Medicine. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and Wayne State University College of Medicine in Detroit, MI. In addition to teaching medical students and residents, she works full-time in the operating room treating and caring for Level One trauma patients, and the critically ill within the northwest Ohio population. She is a National Board Examiner for Anesthesiology and has a passion for teaching and working on the medical school admissions. She has received multiple Teacher of the Year awards for teaching medical students in the field of anesthesiology. She is a committed mentor for high school and college students across the country and has worked with several enrichment programs including the REACH and Medstart programs affiliated with the medical school.
Dr. Lisa Wilson is a pediatric anesthesiologist who currently practices in Apple Valley, California. She was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She trained in anesthesiology at the University of Toledo Medical Center. She then completed her fellowship training in pediatric anesthesiology at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Indiana. She is currently the Chairman of the Anesthesiology Department of St. Mary Medical Center in California. She is a passionate child advocate and has volunteered on several mission trips around the world including Columbia and the Dominican Republic. She is also a committed volunteer in serving the homeless over the years. She has received several teaching awards including the Humanism in Excellence and Teaching award and the Gold Humanism Honor Society award.
Tammon A. Nash, MD MS is the System Blood Bank Medical Director for the Detroit Medical Center and Assistant Professor at Wayne State University, Detroit, MI. She is an anatomic and clinical pathology board certified pathologist with specialty training in transfusion medicine. After completing a transfusion medicine fellowship at the BloodCenter of Wisconsin, she was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI. Her research interests include expanding the blood donor pool and transfusion care for patients with sickle cell anemia. She has several years of experience in therapeutic apheresis, enjoys teaching residents, and looks forward to contributing more to the field of transfusion medicine.
